It seems that each year at Christmas time we have a miracle that happens so unexpectedly. This time it was tripled. A very large extended family of 16 ranging from five months to grandma and grandpa had been living in a very unsafe environment. A compound that the City had red tagged (deemed unsafe) due to hazardous wiring and plumbing.
With Measure E funds we were able to put them into temporary housing. The first part of the family found an apartment the week before Christmas. On Christmas Eve we got the call from the second family unit saying had been accepted and could move into their apartment that day. Thankfully, one of our board members was able to do the paperwork on Christmas Eve and they were in their apartment for Christmas. On the 2nd of January, the remaining members of the family that included grandma and grandpa moved into their new apartment.
This could not have been done without the generous funding from the City Of Elk Grove and Measure E monies that supplied their deposit and first months rent. All of the adults are hard-working and will be able to maintain their rents moving forward. They just needed a hand up.
It encourages us as a HART board to continue to help those that are struggling with housing. This extended family and their precious children are now safe and stable.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to our supporters as you continue to believe in us. It is an effort that takes many hands juggling several different elements. We are so grateful to you and for the huge role you play in making Elk Grove’s most vulnerable safer and stronger. What a great way to start 2026!
